Points to consider:
- Ask different questions:
2. Do mindful breathing exercises:
ask the students to sit up and close their eyes or lower their gaze down at the table in order to minimize visual access. begin with taking slow and deep breaths together. in through the nose and out through the mouth. this will help students focus, and it helps students with depression and anxiety.

3. High-five Friday:
stand at the door, shout HIGH-FIVE, and high five each student. it's fun and everyone will laugh.
4. Start a class Instagram:
when great stuff is happening in the class, you may take a video or pictures of what happening, describing what's going on in that video or picture. your students would follow you and check what you have posted. you can let a student you think works a good job with Instagram to be responsible for posting. two things are happening here: you're showing the students that you value their work and effort, and you went to share them with folks outside the classroom. additionally, you are meeting them where they are at... on Instagram. ( it's not feasible for all in different schools, so if you can then it will help)
5. Weekly check in:
students wander around the room sharing what they did over the weekend (not all are obliged to share, just those who want to). the teacher reminds them to listen and be respectable and, usually, students look forward to the weekly check in.
Creating a positive classroom culture is hard and wee should constantly pull ideas from many resources on how to more effectively do it. it's a great thing sharing our ideas. feel free to share your own ideas if you would love to.

Wow! Thanks Sarah for these creative new ways! I should apply and try them in my class. Students always need such techniques to encourage them to go positively through the learning process.
ReplyDeleteAnd off course there are more ways and motivation techniques a teacher must get. Visit my blog, I have posted a post entitled Motivation, hope you like it :)
